Cheongguyeong-eon is a book of sijoes which was compiled in 1728 (4th year of Yeongjo) by Kim Cheon-taek (circa 1686 ~?). Sijo is a form of traditional Korean poems which is comprised of three lines with normally 44 to 46 syllables in total. Although the first manuscript was completed in 1727, considerable amount of sijoes were presumed to be added later in 1728. Therefore, the book should be considered to be completed in 1728. Kim Cheon-taek collected songs and sijoes from late Goryeo dynasty including his own works. This book together with Haedonggayo and Gagokweollyu are the three most important song books of all times. Cheongguyeong-eon is also the earliest song book of the kind known until today. Sijoes which had been orally transmitted were recorded in Hangeul in this book. It has made a great contribution to the development of songs and music, and to the publication of song books later on. It can be said from the book that normal people began to join upper class in creating and relishing the poetic literature.
